About this setting
Leave room for TikTok's buttons
TikTok shows everything at 9:16, and 1080 × 1920 is the size that fills the screen. A photo of another shape gets bars or is zoomed in by the app, which can cut off exactly the part you wanted to show.
TikTok places more on top of the picture than most apps: the like, comment and share buttons on the right, your name and caption at the bottom. Keep faces and text in the upper middle, away from the right edge and the bottom fifth of the image.
Tips
- Keep the right 150 pixels free of text: the action buttons sit there.
- The caption covers the bottom of the image, so place titles in the upper half.
- Making a slideshow? Resize every photo to the same size so the slides do not jump.

FAQ
Good to know
What size are TikTok photo posts?
TikTok shows photo posts full screen at 9:16, so 1080 × 1920 pixels fills the screen. Other shapes are shown with bars or cropped by the app.Is the TikTok size the same as an Instagram story?
Yes, both are 1080 × 1920. TikTok's buttons and caption cover more of the picture, though, so the safe area for text is smaller. Can I turn a horizontal photo into a TikTok without cropping?
Not by resizing alone — a 9:16 crop keeps a narrow strip from the centre. The AI image expander can add matching scenery above and below instead.
