About this setting

Why pins are 2:3

Pinterest recommends a 2:3 ratio, such as 1000 × 1500 pixels, for standard pins. Tall images get more space in the feed's columns than square or wide ones, which helps them get noticed. Much taller pins, however, may be cut off in the feed.

Pins are often read like small posters: a photo plus a few words of text on top. At 1000 pixels wide, a headline in a large font stays readable even in the narrow columns of the mobile app.

Tips

  • Put a short title in the top third, where people look first while scrolling.
  • Use an upright photo — a landscape photo loses most of its width in a 2:3 crop.
  • Save pins with a lot of text as PNG so the letters stay sharp.

FAQ

Good to know

  • What is the best Pinterest pin size?
1000 × 1500 pixels (2:3) is the size Pinterest recommends for standard pins. It shows in full in the feed on phones and computers.
  • Can I make pins taller than 2:3?
You can, but Pinterest may cut very tall pins off in the feed. 2:3 is the tallest shape that is reliably shown in full.
  • Will my photo lose quality?
A large photo resized down to 1000 × 1500 stays sharp. A small photo enlarged to that size looks soft; the AI image upscaler handles those better.
