Who processes payments

Payments on the website are processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. Purchases in the iPhone app are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store.

Refunds within 14 days

For payments made on the website, you can request a refund of the unused credits from a payment until the end of the 14th day after the day of that payment (UTC). This applies to subscriptions and one-time credit packs bought on the website. An upgrade is handled differently; see “Refunding an upgrade (website)” below.

Purchases in the iPhone app

Apple handles all refunds for subscriptions and credit packs bought in the iPhone app, under Apple's terms. The 14-day rule above does not apply to them, and we cannot issue these refunds ourselves. To ask for one, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, and choose the purchase. Apple decides and sends any refund to your Apple payment method. Your statutory rights for App Store purchases are handled by Apple.

What an Apple refund does to your credits

When Apple refunds a credit pack bought in the app, we take back the credits that pack added from your available paid credits, down to a balance of zero; your balance never becomes negative and nothing is owed. Welcome credits are not taken. When Apple refunds an app subscription, we take back the unused credits of the refunded period only. If Apple later reverses the refund, we add the credits we took back, with the same validity as before, counted from the day they are returned.

Used credits

Credits that have already been used are not refundable.

Failed or late generations

Credits are only held while a result is being made. If a generation fails or is refused, the held credits go back to your balance automatically. If a result is not ready within the processing time limit (at most 24 hours), the run ends, the held credits go back to your balance, and you are not charged, even if the AI provider finishes later. This is automatic: it is not a refund request, and you do not need to contact us.

Results you never received

A finished result can be downloaded until 24 hours after you started the run. If a result was charged but never shown to you or downloaded before it expired, we return its credits to your balance automatically, to the credit batches they came from and with the same expiry dates as before. A result counts as received once it has been shown to you or downloaded at least once, on the website or in the app; whether that happened is decided by our server records. Returned credits that have already passed their expiry date are not added back. This applies to runs started on or after the effective date of version 1.4 of our Terms of service.

How to request a refund

For a website payment, email support@methodhelm.com with your account email and order ID, or use the link in your Paddle receipt. For an iPhone app purchase, request the refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Where the money goes

Refunds go back to your original payment method.

Your legal rights

Your statutory rights in your country (for example, the 14-day right of withdrawal in the EU and UK) are not affected.

Changing your plan

You can switch between the monthly Starter plan (300 credits a month) and the monthly Creator plan (900 credits a month). Change your plan where you subscribed: on the website in your account page, or in the iPhone app, which opens Apple's subscription settings. If you subscribe on both the website and in the app, both subscriptions are charged and both add credits until you cancel one of them. Changes between yearly plans, and between monthly and yearly plans, are not offered at this time.

Upgrading (Starter to Creator)

Upgrading takes effect immediately, and we add 900 credits as soon as the upgrade is paid. On the website, your new monthly period starts on the day you upgrade, and future renewals are charged on that day of the month. Because of how our payment provider works, the upgrade appears as two charges on your statement. Together they equal one month of Creator from today, minus a credit for the part of your Starter period you have not used. Before you confirm, your account page shows that there will be two charges and the estimated total. Taxes are added where they apply. If the second charge does not go through, we add only the credits that match what you paid, and your account page shows the status. In the iPhone app, Apple charges the Creator plan and refunds the unused part of your Starter period to you, under Apple's rules.

Your Starter credits when you upgrade

You are already credited, in money, for the unused part of your Starter period, so we take back the same share of that period's 300 Starter credits: for example, about 150 credits if half the period is left. We only take back credits you still have; your balance never goes below zero, and this happens once per period. On the website, your account page shows the number before you confirm. The adjustment appears in your credit history. Credits you had already used are not affected.

Downgrading (Creator to Starter)

Downgrading takes effect at the start of your next billing period. Nothing is charged or refunded for the current period; you keep the Creator plan and its credits until then. From the next period you are charged the Starter price and receive 300 credits a month. Credits you already have stay in your balance until they expire, up to 60 days after they were added. You can cancel a scheduled downgrade before it takes effect: on the website in your account page, or in the iPhone app through Apple's subscription settings.

Refunding an upgrade (website)

The two charges of a website upgrade count as one payment for refunds. Until the end of the 14th day after the day of the later charge (UTC), you can ask to undo the upgrade. We then put you back on the Starter plan instead of cancelling your subscription: the unused part of your 900 Creator credits is removed, the Starter credits we took back at the upgrade are returned with their original expiry dates, and your Starter plan continues to its original renewal date. Because you get that Starter time back, the refund is the two upgrade charges minus the Creator credits you have used, each counted at the monthly Creator price you paid for the upgrade divided by 900, and never less than zero. If the credits you used are worth as much as the upgrade charges or more, there is nothing to refund and the upgrade stays. If your original Starter period has already ended, you choose one of two options, both shown before you confirm: start a new Starter period on the day of the refund, charged at the Starter price, with 300 new credits; or return to Starter without renewing, with no new charge. Taxes are refunded in proportion. While an upgrade stands, the Starter credits taken back at the upgrade do not count as unused credits of your earlier Starter payment, because you were already credited for them in the upgrade price; any other unused credits from that Starter payment can still be refunded within that payment's own 14 days. If you undo an upgrade and receive the refund, you cannot upgrade again in the same billing period; you can upgrade again after your next renewal. This applies to upgrades made on or after the effective date of version 1.4 of our Terms of service. In the iPhone app, Apple handles refunds under Apple's rules.

Cancelling a subscription

Cancelling a subscription stops future renewals. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for, and the credits you already received stay in your balance until they expire, up to 60 days after they were added. Cancelling does not by itself refund anything; see the 14-day rule above for refunds of website payments. On the website you can undo a cancellation before the period ends. App Store subscriptions are cancelled in your iPhone Settings (tap your name, then Subscriptions); we cannot cancel them for you. Deleting your account is different: a website subscription is cancelled immediately and remaining credits are forfeited. If a website payment is still within its 14-day refund period, you can request a refund under this policy before deleting. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it in your iPhone Settings.
