  • Consulate of Mexico in San Diego, temporary residence form: not a US passport size; minimum 26 mm × 32 mm and maximum 31 mm × 39 mm. Color, front-facing, face visible, no glasses, white background, printed on photo paper. Source: consulmex.sre.gob.mx/sandiego/images/visas/espanol/f_5a_Temporal_-_Solvencia_economica.pdf
  • Consulate of Mexico in Leamington, diplomatic or official visa page: a color photo taken in the last six months, exactly 3.5 × 4.5 cm, plain white background, face fully visible. Source: consulmex.sre.gob.mx/leamington/index.php/non-mexicans/visas/116-diplomatic-or-official-visa

What every page agrees on

Color photo, front-facing, face fully visible, no glasses, white (or off-white) background. Take it recently. Beyond these basics, size differs by consulate.

How to find your size

Open the page of the consulate that will process your application, look for the visa form or the "requirements" page, and find the line about the photo. If it gives a range, choose a size inside it. If you cannot find it, ask the consulate before printing.

How to make the photo

  1. Take the photo

Take a front-facing photo against a light wall, even light, no glasses, neutral face.

  2. Choose the size

Open the Passport photo maker, choose Mexico and the visa size 31 × 39 mm (the upper limit of the San Diego range).

  3. Download and print

Check the size line. If your consulate asks for 3.5 × 4.5 cm, choose that size instead. Download and print at 100% scale on photo paper.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is 31 × 39 mm the official Mexican visa size?

Not for every consulate. It is the upper end of the San Diego range. Others ask for 3.5 × 4.5 cm. Check yours.

Can I wear glasses?

The consulate pages we read say no glasses.

Why was my photo returned?

The pages we read do not list common reasons for returns, so we do not guess; ask your consulate which rule your photo missed.

What pixel size for an online upload?

At 300 dpi, 31 × 39 mm is 366 × 461 px and 3.5 × 4.5 cm is 413 × 531 px. Use the size your consulate's upload form asks for.

Is this for a Mexican passport?

No. For a Mexican passport the photo is taken at the consulate or SRE office on the day of the appointment (see the passport page of your consulate, for example consulmex.sre.gob.mx/calgary). This guide is about visas.
