Is It Safe to Upload Photos to an AI Photo Editor?

Family photos are personal, so it is fair to ask where they go. No online tool can promise that nothing can ever go wrong, and this guide does not. It explains what Methodhelm's privacy notice says, and how to check any service the same way.

What happens when you use an AI tool

  • When you use an AI tool, your photo and any description you type are sent to Methodhelm's servers and to the AI service provider that runs that tool, to create your result. The notice names fal.ai and OpenAI as providers. (Privacy Notice)
  • The notice says Methodhelm does not keep the photos you upload and does not use them to train AI models. (Privacy Notice)
  • Each AI provider handles data under its own terms and privacy policy. The notice says OpenAI states that data sent to its API is not used to train its models and may be kept up to 30 days to monitor for abuse. The notice also says request logging is turned off at fal.ai and files expire after 24 hours, but that this does not cover records the underlying model companies may keep themselves. (Privacy Notice)

How long results are kept

  • Your results are kept for 24 hours so you can download them, then deleted, and fully deleted from Methodhelm's storage within 7 days. (Privacy Notice)
  • That is why you should download what you want within 24 hours.

Tools that never upload

  • The notice says tools that run on your device (crop, resize, compress, convert, face check, straightening) do not send your photos anywhere. (Privacy Notice)
  • If you only need a crop, a resize or a format change, use those.

Deleting your account

  • You can delete your account yourself on the account page of the website or in the app. Generated results are removed from your account when you delete it. (Privacy Notice)

A checklist before you upload family photos

  1. Decide which photos you are comfortable sharing

Don't upload anything you would not want a service to process.

  2. Get permission

Upload photos of other people only if they agree. Methodhelm's FAQ says for the headshot tool: only photos of yourself, or of someone who has agreed. (FAQ)

  3. Read the privacy page

Look for who processes the photo, whether it is kept, whether it is used to train models, how long results stay, and how to delete your data.

  4. Test with a less sensitive photo first

  5. Keep your original file

Never rely on an online service as your only copy.

  6. Download results and keep them yourself

  7. Know how to contact the service

The notice gives support@methodhelm.com for questions about your data.

Honest limits

This guide cannot promise that nothing will go wrong, and it cannot describe how third-party providers handle data beyond what the notice says. If a photo is extremely sensitive, don't upload it to any online service.
