About this setting
Why PNG to JPG saves so much
Phones save screenshots as PNG, and many apps export photos as PNG too. PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which makes photos huge; JPG drops detail you cannot see and is usually five to ten times smaller for the same photo. That matters for email attachments, forms with a size limit and web pages.
JPG has no transparency. Any transparent part of the PNG, such as the background around a logo, becomes white in the JPG.
Tips
- For screenshots with text, use 90% quality or more so the letters stay crisp.
- Keep logos with a transparent background as PNG, or use WebP to keep transparency in a smaller file.
- Need a specific limit, such as under 200 KB? Use a compress setting after converting.

FAQ
Good to know
What happens to the transparent background?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. Will the text in my screenshot become blurry?
At 90% quality or higher, text stays sharp in almost every screenshot. At low quality, faint smudges appear around the letters. Why convert to JPG instead of WebP?
JPG is accepted by every form, printer and program. WebP is smaller and keeps transparency, but some places still refuse it.
